The highest recorded vertical jump is a ridiculous 60", the unofficial record however puts this figure to shame. Read on to find out more about the tremendous athletes responsible for these feats.

Having a high vertical jump can give you a tremendous advantage in athletics, soccer, basketball, football and many other sports. It's an essential skill to develop and particularly in the basketballer's case, It can make or break a players ability to perform at an expert level.

Who are some very poorly grounded Individuals?


David Thompson, 6-4, 48" Vertical Jump
  • Thompson is widely considered the greatest player in the history of the Atlantic Coast Conference, He was in many ways simplistic by todays standard in terms of the way he played basketball. However, he set the foundations for the creativity and imagination that you see in todays players. Players claim that with his vertical jump, he could actually take a coin off the top of the backboard. Nice!
Spud Webb, 5-7, 50" Vertical Jump (unofficial)
  • Originally recruited by the Detroit Pistons in 1985 Spud had an absolutely tremendous vertical jump. It has been unofficially quoted at 50 inches and though he denies this figure it was no doubt close as he was Regularly compared to David Thompson. He used his vertical jumping abilities to take out the 1986 Slam Dunk championship, Stealing the title from his Team mate Dominique Wilkins whilst aweing the crowd with his showmanship.

  • A basketball player from France originally born in Algeria takes the cake, and the current world record! Amazing athleticism and a completely ridiculous vertical jump.
What is the Current Unofficial Vertical Jump World Record?

Yan Zhi Cheng, Chinese Acrobat and Performer, 97" Vertical Jump!
  • on 19 July 1988, at a performance in The Hague, jumped (without trampoline or any assistance) through a hoop of which the lowest point was measured at 97". He used two legs to set off, so his jump isn't the official world record. However, it is the highest human jump ever recorded. An absolutely ridiculous feat, Thats no doubt pushed the envelope on whats possible.
